Weather in Vietnam

You can find different types of weather in Vietnam depending if you travel to the North, Center or the South, although it tends to be hot and humid everywhere. Vietnam has temperate and tropical regions. 

From June and November you can find monsoons and typhoons. All of the country experiences the effects of the annual monsoon.

The rainy seasons runs from from June to September in the north and south and from October to December in central Vietnam 

In northern Vietnam, you can expect hot and humid summers. At some points of summer, you can get more humidity, highest rainfalls and temperatures than can get to 35ºC. During winter from November to April, you can expect Cool and dry, with temperatures ranging from 10 to 20°C. The best time to visit the North is from April to June. 

In the center of the country, in coastal areas, you can expect a tropical climate with high temperatures and a distinct wet season from September to December. Inland areas like the mountains, you can experience cooler temperatures. The best time in Vietnam to travel to the center of the country is from March to August. 

In the south, the climate is tropical, with high temperatures and humidity throughout the year. Nevertheless, there are two distinct seasons: the dry season (from November to April) and the rainy season (from May to October). The best time in Vietnam to travel to the South is from December to April. 

Vietnam’s climate is also impacted by the El Niño Southern Oscillation (ENSO), which influences monsoonal circulation. Keep in mind that flooding occurs in October and November in central Vietnam, in and around Hanoi and in the Mekong River Delta regions in the south.
